The concept behind this scratched canvas is the depiction of the violence of greed. The black paint covering the gold represents the obstacles; one must scratch through the surface in order to reach the gold. This closely relates to current political events in Brazil, in which several politicians participated in acts of corruption that had a negative impact on the economy, affecting millions of families. This is related to my central theme of life, death, and preservation because I capture the violence and damage evoked by these acts in Brazilian society. These scandalous events, caused for the sake of gold, are preserved eternally in this artwork.

The concept of this artwork is reflected in all of its aspects. First of all, the words were carved in linoleum and then transferred to a canvas. This reflects the current use of print media, such as magazines and newspapers, to judge people. The other controversial aspect of this artwork is its message: the viewers are invited to “judge me”, that is, to call attention to the malpractice of viewers who judge art by visual eloquence and not by the message behind the artwork.

The concept behind this artwork is the introduction of a new side of me that was previously unknown to others. The photo is a manifestation of my emotional side – a side that is emotionally hurt. This is represented by the physical bruise on my face. The aesthetic present in this artwork borders the message the photo portrays. The photo is completely out of focus, which signals the loneliness of the person in the photo and creates a barrier with the audience.

The concept behind the handbag is to criticize society’s current beliefs that certain fashion items are made specifically for a single gender. The handbag was purposely made with several masculine characteristics, such as its duffel bag format, and feminine characteristics, such as the colorful tent top.

The concept behind these metallic faces, is the ability of literally capturing and freezing the faces of people dear to me. Capturing their essence and freezing it in my aluminium artwork, a place where their youth and enthusiasm will be forever preserved. This reason is why this artwork specifically relates to my central theme, which is to preserve life (or death) in my artworks.

This mixed media representation of the Cantareira water reservoir juxtaposes its death and its previous glory while full. This is the epitome of my main theme: life, death, and preservation. I capture both the Cantareira’s life and death and preserve them in my artwork.

Sandcastles is a procedural story of innocence and the simplicity of happiness. This is clearly represented by the girls playing with the dog. The name of this artwork itself points out the concept behind it, “Sandcastles” gives reference to a childlike activity which in turn points out my argument in this artwork, which is the simplicity of happiness.
